Who handles your data
InMyDarkroom (inmydarkroom.com) is a project by Francesco Mussida, via Filippino degli Organi 10, 20135 Milan, Italy, VAT number 11558880966, who is the data controller. For any question or request about your data, write to hello@inmydarkroom.com.
This notice is given under Article 13 of Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR) and covers this site only, not the sites linked from the darkroom pages.
What data we collect
To sign in. When you ask to join or use an invitation: your name (a pseudonym is fine), email address, language, and whether you ticked the news box. There are no passwords: to sign in you receive a personal link by email that works for a limited time.
Your profile. Name, city, country and your thoughts on this project (required) and, if you like, your Instagram, website, a few lines about yourself and a profile photo, which may show your face.
Your darkroom. The photos you upload, your enlargers, formats and the rest of the page.
Invitations. Who invited whom, so we know who to thank when the person they invited publishes their darkroom.
If you write to us. Through the contact form: your name, email and message. They reach us by email at hello@inmydarkroom.com, the site does not keep them, and we use them only to reply to you.
Technical data. Like any website, the server automatically records data such as your IP address, browser, date and the page visited, needed for the site to work and stay secure.
What becomes public
Once we approve your darkroom, everyone can see: your name, city and country, Instagram, website, the lines about yourself, your thoughts on this project, your profile photo, and the photos and texts of your darkroom. Your email address is never shown.
We never publish a location more precise than the city. All metadata is removed from photos when they are uploaded, including GPS coordinates and the phone model.
When someone you invited publishes their darkroom, the site makes a thank-you image with your name for you to download and share if you wish. Anyone who knows its address can open it.
Where it may appear. Once we approve it, your darkroom may appear in the public collection on the site, among the latest uploads, in the selections of the month and of the year, and in the newsletter to subscribers. If we want to give it a feature of its own, we write to you first to ask for a little more.
Who shows it. inmydarkroom.com, its Instagram profile and its newsletter. Also stampaanalogica.it, the analogue photography blog of Francesco Mussida, founder of InMyDarkroom, and darkroommastery.com, his darkroom printing courses. Always to make the census known and invite others to join.
The photos remain yours. You only give InMyDarkroom permission to show them, free of charge and non-exclusive: you can use them wherever you like. We never sell them or pass them on to anyone.
You accept this once, before uploading your first photo: without it, nothing can be uploaded. If you delete your darkroom we stop using it in new posts.
Why we use your data, and on what basis
- To let you sign in, show your darkroom and send you the service emails (the sign-in link, the notice that your page is online or needs changes, the thank-you for an invitation): this is the service you ask for (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
- To send you InMyDarkroom news, only if you ticked the box, which is always unticked to start with: this is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)). You can withdraw it at any time from your profile or with the link at the bottom of every email.
- To show your darkroom in the ways and on the channels listed above: this is the service you ask for and accept before uploading (Art. 6(1)(b)). If you no longer want it, delete your darkroom.
- For the security of the site and to check each page before it is published: this is the controller's legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)). You can object by writing to hello@inmydarkroom.com.
Every darkroom is looked at by a person before it goes online. To crop the photos and to check them for privacy and decency, they may also be examined by an automated image analysis service (Anthropic), which uses them only to give its answer and for no other purpose.
Cookies
The site uses a single technical cookie, which remembers that you are signed in and which language you chose, for up to four months on the same device. We use no analytics or advertising cookies, so no banner is needed.
Who else handles data on our behalf
- Clever Cloud (France): the server hosting the site, the database and the photos, in Paris.
- Zoho (servers in the European Union): the hello@inmydarkroom.com mailbox.
- Resend: sending the service emails.
- MailerLite: sending the news, only to people who gave their consent.
- Anthropic: the automated photo analysis described above.
- Photon (komoot), with OpenStreetMap data: suggestions for the City field. Our server runs the search, so it only receives the letters you type, never your IP address.
Some of these providers are based outside the European Union. Transfers take place with the safeguards set out in the GDPR, such as standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
- Your profile and darkroom stay as long as you keep them online. You can delete your darkroom at any time from "My darkroom": the photos and the page are removed from the site and the server. To delete your profile and email too, write to hello@inmydarkroom.com.
- Sign-in links expire on their own after 3 months.
- Consent to the news lasts until you withdraw it.
- Requests to join and invitations are kept as long as the related profile exists, or until you ask for them to be deleted.
Your rights
At any time you can ask to access your data, correct it, delete it, restrict its use, receive it in a format another service can read, object to processing based on legitimate interest and withdraw your consent to the news. Write to hello@inmydarkroom.com. If you think your data is not being handled correctly, you can complain to the Italian data protection authority (Garante per la protezione dei dati personali) or to the authority in your country.
InMyDarkroom is for people aged 18 or over. If we find that a darkroom has been uploaded by someone younger, we remove it.
You are responsible for the photos you upload
By uploading photos you confirm that they are yours, or that you have the right to use them, and that you may show the place photographed. If other people appear in the photos, you need their permission.
You alone are responsible for the photos you upload: we look at them before publishing, but we trust what you tell us. If someone reports a problem with a photo, we look at it and remove it.
Changes
This notice may change if the law or the site's services change. The date at the top shows the latest version.
